Easy Fruit Salad Recipes: Fresh and Delicious Way to Get a Little Bit Healthier

This summer I started putting together my easy fruit salad recipes for the first time. We eat them on their own, on top of the healthy cereals or with healthy oatmeal pancakes.

For someone who doesn't like drinking eight glasses of water per day, fresh fruit salads provide the best hydration in the most delicious way. Careful analysis revealed so many benefits of fresh fruit salads that I was hitting my forehead asking myself why I haven't started making them long time ago!

...Well, I know why. Cutting the whole bowl of fruits is not exactly the quickest way to cook. But now that I started doing it every week, I find it very nerve calming and stress relieving. You know, some people vacuum, some clean their house to relieve stress, and I don't like doing either, so I make a fruit salad. Just get the music going, and chop, chop, chop those colourful sweet pieces... Then mix them up and let them stand to combine their flavours into delicious bouquet of fresh fruit from all over the world.

Fresh fruit salad's nutritional benefits

Speaking of nutritional benefits, I started making these easy fruit salad recipes to mix up fruit that lower blood pressure. When I checked nutritional composition, there were a lot of antioxidants in my easy fruit salads. For example, watermelon contains licopene, just like tomatoes. There were elements like Potassium and Manganese, and scores of others. Fresh fruit salads help protect from cancer, preserve your good eyesight, recover after rigorous exercise and lose weight ( despite their sweet taste).

I realized that it's better to take a fruit salad before a long bike ride than to drink a glass of water. It's better to always have fresh fruit salad handy when you crave something sweet and reach for a cookie. It's better to have it in the fridge because the whole family benefits from it.

Fresh fruit salads can stay in the fridge for up to 5 days without losing much of their nutritional value.

How to make fruit salad

I worked out the following principle of making healthy fruit salads:
  • Add at least one juicy fruit so that other fruit get immersed in juice. Watermelon is a fantastic base for a fruit salad
  • Add at least one sour type of fruit so that it doesn't feel too sweet. Grapes, kiwi, grapefruit, plums are good to have for this purpose
  • Add one crunchy fruit for texture. I add apples. I tried pears, but did not find them as appealing. Their colour darkens quickly, and one day later my salad doesn't look as attractive as when it was freshly cut
  • Mix the colours! Different colours mean different antioxidants. They also make your salad visually attractive.

Let's start chopping, shall we?

Watermelon fresh fruit salad recipe

In the winter when blueberries are expensive, use frozen berry mix from Costco. But for now, I enjoy fresh blueberries mixed up with colourfull fruits in this easy fruit salad. Oh and by the way, there is a very tasty recipe of jam made of watermelon skins. I kid you not. I will post it some day.

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 watermelon, skin removed
  • 1 apple
  • 2 mangoes
  • 2 cups green seedless grapes
  • 2 red plums
  • 1 cup blueberries

Directions:
  1. Wash your fruit. Core apples, remove pits from plums. Remove skin from watermelons and mangoes.
  2. Soak blueberries and grapes in water as you cut other ingredients. This will allow more pesticides to come out of their skin.
  3. Cut fruit in square pieces of 1/4 inch ( 7 to 10 mm). Cut grapes in three peaces each.
  4. Add blueberries. Mix them in the bowl, cover the bowl and place in the fridge.
